about the artist
I am a painter and teacher living in Greenfield, MA. In my work I am interested in representations of womxn and in themes of belonging and alienation. The show at the Bloomery includes new portraits which play with the degree of collaboration with the people who are represented in them.
The importance of art for me is a commitment to looking. It is paying attention to the ordinary and recognizing the worlds it contains. When you look in this way, you (the viewer) seem to vanish and that which is observed can seem more understandable. Looking in this way makes us more open to delight. It is also an exercise in empathy.
